The Women in Dentistry Podcast

The Women in Dentistry Podcast and Collaborative was founded by Dr. MaryJane Hanlon in March of 2020 as a way to inspire and reassure the young women in dentistry – no matter what their contribution to the field is:  office support, assistant, hygienist, dentist, lab tech, or sales – that their story matters.

The idea for the podcast was the result of an innocent conversation occurring between two first year female students that Dr. Hanlon became a part of.  Concerned about their lack of confidence in their own ability, she looked for a podcast to help her dental students develop confidence by seeing women who had a similar lack in confidence eventually become successful in their career.  Finding none, The Women in Dentistry was Born.

In an effort to support her students During the COVID-19 Pandemic of 2020, Dr. MaryJane Hanlon, the Associate Dean of Clinical Affairs at Tufts University School of Dental Medicine (TUSDM), started forwarding classes students could participate in free of charge while they were at home waiting to return. Quickly, students started reaching out for more and more information and advice. Soon after, Dr. MJ Hanlon’s Study Club was formed. With a focus on five foundational principles that Dr. Hanlon found useful in building her Career: Health (Emotional & Physical), Career (Skill Development), Wealth (Financial Foundation), Family & Spiritual, she chose speakers from across the country to provide weekly content with Q & A. Wanting to emulate success and an exceptional experience, she began to reach out to the Seattle Study Club to learn more. With some major discussions and generous support, the first Student Seattle Study Club in the country - the New Dentist Symposium - An Affiliate of the Seattle Study Club - was formed and piloted at TUSDM in September 2020.
